As at 16 October 2026, Enterprise lists its Australian rental operation as temporarily closed, with no confirmed reopening date. Its Australian FAQ says the closure began on 1 February 2026, when the existing franchise partnership was due to end.
Older Enterprise pages still list Australian airports and cities, but do not confirm that branches are open or bookings available. Published rental rules are historical and do not describe current conditions.
Enterprise’s Australian locations
Enterprise’s legacy Australian location directory names Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth airports, as well as locations in other cities and towns. Its Australian franchise notice says the partnership was due to conclude on 1 February 2026 and that Enterprise was seeking a new partner. The company has not confirmed that a replacement began operating or announced a reopening date.
Sydney Airport’s general transport page still lists Enterprise among rental providers. Its detailed car-rental directions, however, do not give Enterprise pickup or return instructions. That general listing does not establish that Enterprise currently serves the airport. The same applies to other old location listings: they describe the network, not verified active branches.
Enterprise’s published rental rules
Enterprise’s Australian terms page says it was last updated in December 2022. The local FAQ and branch pages remain accessible, but their terms are not confirmed as current after the stated closure. These are historical details published by Enterprise, and the rules renters would face if service reopens remain unconfirmed.
| Topic | Published rule | Scope and date |
|---|---|---|
| Age | An Enterprise overview says renters must prove they are over 25. A Port Augusta branch page dated 21 September 2025 gives a minimum age of 21, with a A$23.50 per-day young-driver surcharge, excluding GST, for drivers aged 21–24. It also limits those drivers to specified vehicle categories. | The pages conflict, and the published information does not resolve whether the difference reflects location, scope or outdated guidance. |
| Licence and identification | The FAQ lists a valid driving licence, valid identification and a credit or debit card. It says international drivers may need extra documents. | The pages do not give one complete documentation rule for every licence type, nationality and location. |
| Excess | Enterprise’s terms say damage liability depends on the brand and vehicle class and refer renters to a liability table. | A current Australian excess amount is unconfirmed. |
| Bond | The December 2022 terms describe a A$200 pre-authorisation for most rentals. They also describe a A$1,000 pre-authorisation, in addition to the rental charge, for some airport rentals. | The higher amount applies only when all listed conditions are met: pickup at Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Darwin or Perth Airport; no boarding pass for a flight on the rental start date; residence in that airport city’s greater metropolitan area; a first rental with Enterprise, National or Alamo; renter under 40; and no corporate rental. These are historical terms. |
| Payment | The terms allow major credit and debit cards and cash for rental and extra charges, but bond payment rules are narrower. The A$200 bond accepts major credit or debit cards, not cash; the A$1,000 bond accepts major credit cards only. The terms state a 0.8% fee on American Express, Diners, Visa and Mastercard credit-card transactions, excluding GST. | The FAQ excludes Maestro, Electron, Solo and prepaid cards from accepted debit cards. It says 4×4 and premium vehicle rentals require a credit card, which must be in the main driver’s name. |
| Driving restrictions | A Port Augusta page says vehicles can only be driven in Australia. The terms say remote-location rentals can have kilometre limits, different liability conditions and restrictions on unsealed roads. | Route, road-surface and remote-area permissions depend on the applicable rental terms. |
| One-way rentals | The terms allow one-way rentals between many locations and say relocation fees are advised at reservation. | Availability and charges depend on the route and booking. |
The published figures do not establish current charges. No current Enterprise excess or bond amount is verified. Current card fees, young-driver fees and one-way charges are also unverified. Treat those amounts as unknown unless a future booking quote or current terms specify them.
Sydney Airport car rental alternatives
Sydney Airport’s detailed car-rental directions name several providers and explain where renters collect and return vehicles. The directions describe where each provider handles pickup and returns; they do not compare prices or service quality. The airport’s general transport page lists Enterprise, but its detailed directions do not provide an Enterprise-specific pickup arrangement.
The company groups below follow the providers’ corporate disclosures. Sydney Airport’s directions do not identify a parent company for Redspot.
| Provider and company group | Pickup and return directions published by Sydney Airport |
|---|---|
| Avis and Budget, Avis Budget Group | At T1 International, use the arrivals-hall rental desks, then collect or return the vehicle at P7. At T2/T3 Domestic, pickup and return are on the arrivals level on Keith Smith Avenue. |
| Europcar, Europcar Mobility Group | At T1 International, the arrivals-hall desk directs renters to P7. At T2/T3 Domestic, pickup and return are in P2 car park on Keith Smith Avenue. |
| Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar, Hertz Global Holdings | At T1 International, use the arrivals-hall desk and P7. At T2/T3 Domestic, pickup and return are on Ross Smith Avenue in the south-east sector. |
| Redspot, Redspot brand | At T1 International, the counter is between arrival gates A and B, with vehicle collection about 200 metres away. The airport directs returns to its Arrival Court car park. At T2/T3 Domestic, complete the contract at an in-terminal desk, then take a free shuttle to 7 Coleman Street, Mascot. Return the vehicle there and take the shuttle back to the terminals. |
| SIXT, SIXT SE | At T1 International, the counter is between arrival gates A and B, with vehicles about 200 metres away. At T2/T3 Domestic, pickup and return are on the arrivals level on Keith Smith Avenue. |
Check the directions for the specific provider and terminal before travelling. A domestic rental desk does not always mean the vehicle is parked at the terminal: Europcar uses P2, while Redspot directs domestic renters to an off-airport site and shuttle. Enterprise’s former terms mention Redspot, Alamo and National, but that wording does not show that those brands currently operate as Enterprise or that Enterprise has resumed service.
