About Straya

Australia, explored

Straya is an independent guide to travelling, living and finding your way in Australia. Explore a state or a town, plan a visit to a landmark, compare places to live, or work through the practical details of a move.

Places and destinations

Places follows geography: states, territories, cities and towns. Destinations follows where you want to go, including national parks, beaches, walks and natural landmarks. A city can appear in both. Its visitor guide and living guide answer different questions.

How we use sources

Park authorities, government departments, local councils, Traditional Owner organisations and operators’ own published information are the starting point for practical claims. Links in the guides let you follow the evidence and check the current position.

Rules, fees, timetables, rental terms and access conditions change. A guide can explain how to plan, but the managing authority’s current notice or the agreement for your booking takes precedence. Census figures are labelled with their year, and housing figures need a date and a clearly identified area.

Directory comparisons

Directory articles compare services using published information. They do not imply a personal booking, test drive or tour. Brand information and branch information are treated separately. Straya does not invent star ratings or customer testimonials.

Living cultures and Country

Australia is home to many distinct Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and living cultures. Local names and publicly shared cultural information need local sources. One community’s seasonal calendar or story does not represent every community.
