Melbourne campervan hire

In this guide

Maui, Mighty and Cruisin list Melbourne depots, but airport-terminal collection is not confirmed for any of them. Maui and Mighty are based in Somerton; Cruisin is in Tullamarine. The comparison uses published rental conditions for 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, checked on 16 October 2026.

Compare Maui, Mighty and Cruisin

Maui and Mighty are brands in Tourism Holdings Limited’s Australian motorhome portfolio. Cruisin is also part of the group’s Australian portfolio. Fleet lists show the vehicle types each brand offers across Australia, but do not confirm which models will be available in Melbourne on your dates.

Provider Melbourne depot and vehicle classes One-way hire Driver and licence Bond, excess and road rules
Maui 40 Hume Highway, Somerton. Its Australian fleet lists 2-, 2+1-, 4- and 6-berth motorhomes. The Melbourne branch says a one-way fee may apply. The branch page says a one-way fee may apply but does not state the fee or eligible Melbourne routes. Drivers must be at least 21 and hold a current, full motor-vehicle licence. A licence not in English requires an international driving permit from the same country or an accredited English translation. A liability deposit is payable at pick-up by credit or debit card; prepaid credit cards are not accepted. The published information does not state the deposit amount, excess or route restrictions.
Mighty 40–46 Hume Highway, Somerton. Its Australian fleet lists 2-, 2+1-, 2+2-, 4- and 6-berth options, plus a 4WD category. The Melbourne branch says a one-way fee may apply. The applicable fee and Melbourne route combinations are not established here. The current terms reviewed here do not settle the age and licence clauses. Do not assume Maui’s requirements also apply to Mighty. A liability deposit is payable at pick-up by credit or debit card; prepaid credit cards are not accepted. The published information does not state the deposit amount, excess or route restrictions.
Cruisin 25–27 Catalina Drive, Tullamarine. Its 2026–27 conditions cover 2-berth Hi-Top and Sandpiper vehicles, and 4- and 6-berth motorhomes. Check the quote for Melbourne model availability. One-way hire between branch locations costs $165 under the 2026–27 conditions, subject to minimum hire periods. Changing the return location after hire begins requires approval and may incur a separate charge. Drivers must be aged 21–79 and hold a full, non-probationary licence. For a licence not in English, Cruisin requires an international driver licence or accepts an accredited English translation. For Cruisin vehicles, the refundable security bond under the standard liability option is $5,000 for pick-ups from 1 April 2026. A physical credit card is required at pick-up. The conditions permit sealed roads and well-maintained access roads under 12 km to recognised campgrounds. Cruisin can restrict travel because of road or weather conditions or journey distance.

A bond is the amount held as security; it does not, by itself, define the renter’s maximum liability. Cruisin’s 2026–27 summary also covers GoCheap: its separate $3,000 bond applies to the GoCheap Hi Top, not to Cruisin vehicles. The excess payable depends on the selected liability option. The figures above apply to the stated conditions period.

For Maui and Mighty, the branch pages confirm that a liability deposit is due but do not establish its amount or the applicable excess. The terms reviewed here also do not settle their route restrictions or one-way fees. Treat those details as unresolved until the booking quote and rental agreement specify them.

Choose a vehicle from the quote

Maui and Mighty publish broad Australian fleet ranges, but those lists do not guarantee that every class is available from Melbourne for a particular date. Assess the quoted vehicle’s seatbelts, sleeping capacity and suitability for your passengers, using the berth label as one factor.

The published information reviewed here does not settle mileage allowances or child-restraint charges and conditions across all three providers. Check the quote and rental agreement for those details, including which restraints fit the selected vehicle. Do not assume the same terms apply across brands.

Plan depot pick-up and return in Melbourne

Maui and Mighty list daily Somerton branch hours of 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and require customers to collect or return the vehicle at least one hour before closing. Both branches say they do not provide airport or city transfers, and customer parking is not available inside the depot grounds. Their pages mention taxi or rideshare access and identify street parking or Andrews Airport Parking as alternatives.

Maui’s branch page gives conflicting airport distances, so no single figure is dependable. Mighty lists its Somerton depot as 17.2 km from the airport. Cruisin’s Tullamarine depot is listed as 4.2 km from Melbourne Airport, or about seven minutes’ drive, but the information reviewed does not establish airport-terminal vehicle collection.

Cruisin’s 2026–27 conditions list Melbourne depot hours: the depot is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, and from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. Customers collecting or returning during staffed hours are asked to arrive at least one hour before closing. Sunday returns can be requested from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm using an out-of-hours key return; the depot is unmanned then.

The published 2026–27 conditions list Good Friday, 26 March 2027, as a closure for Maui and Mighty. Cruisin also lists closures on Christmas Day, 25 December 2026, and New Year’s Day, 1 January 2027. These dates apply to the stated rental-conditions period.
