Bowali Visitor Centre

In this guide

Bowali Visitor Centre in Jabiru is a useful first stop for planning a Kakadu visit. Parks Australia staff answer questions and help plan walks and activities, and displays introduce the park’s landscapes, plants and animals.

The centre has a theatre and library, and sells Kakadu park passes. Opening hours change with the seasons, so check the Kakadu Access Report before travelling, especially if your plans depend on a road, walk or visitor site being open.

Plan your Kakadu visit

Before heading into Kakadu, ask staff about your planned walks and activities. You can also contact Bowali before your trip on +61 8 8938 1120 or at KakaduNP@dcceew.gov.au.

The Kakadu Access Report provides daily updates on visitor-site access. Even when the centre is open, individual roads, walks and attractions may be closed. Check the report for current conditions and closures before setting out.

Explore the displays

Bowali’s walk-through displays cover Kakadu’s habitats, plants, animals and landscapes. The library offers detailed information about the park, and the theatre screens documentaries presenting different perspectives on Kakadu. A mobile-device charging station is also listed among the centre’s facilities.

Bowali covers Kakadu’s natural environment, while the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre near Yellow Water covers Bininj/Mungguy culture.

Check opening hours

Parks Australia lists these seasonal opening hours:

Season Opening hours

The centre is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Check the current report for the date of your visit, as temporary hours or closures can apply.

Access at the centre

Parks Australia’s visitor guide lists Bowali among Kakadu’s accessible visitor centres. Event information for the venue describes accessible parking spaces, a 100-metre concreted pathway, a graded ramp at the entrance and accessible toilets inside. The library is described as a quiet, air-conditioned space.

These details do not cover every service or facility. If you have specific access requirements, contact Parks Australia before travelling to confirm what is available for your visit.
