In this guide

Avis and Europcar publish clear counter and pickup details for Adelaide Airport. Adelaide Airport lists Enterprise among nearby providers, but its current counter, hours and handover details are less clear. A pre-authorisation temporarily holds money on your card; the damage excess is the amount you owe for damage under the rental agreement.

Branch details and terms are dated 18 October 2026. The hold amount and damage excess depend on the provider and booking, so compare the figures for your chosen car before paying.

Provider Pickup and published hours Age and licence Card, hold and excess
Avis The Avis Adelaide Airport branch page places the counter inside the terminal, opposite the baggage carousels. Collect the car from the multi-level car park across the courtyard. Published hours are 6:00 am–11:00 pm Sunday to Friday and 6:00 am–10:00 pm Saturday. The branch page requires drivers to be at least 21 and to have held a full, current licence for at least 12 consecutive months. A young-driver surcharge may apply. Avis’s Australian renter requirements say drivers under 25 may be limited to certain vehicle classes. The payment card must be approved, in the renter’s name and have enough available funds. For passenger cars, Avis lists an additional pre-authorisation of $0 for Pay Later bookings paid by credit card, and $200 for Pay Later bookings paid by debit card. For Pay Now bookings, the additional hold is $200 for either card type. Avis separately states a $500 security deposit when Zero Excess is selected in the relevant renter-requirements context. These holds are not the damage excess; the branch material does not establish a standard excess amount.
Europcar The airport rental guide places the counter on the terminal ground floor opposite domestic baggage claim. It lists hours of 6:30 am–10:30 pm, Monday to Sunday. The guide gives Privilege customers a separate car-park-office route. The airport guide requires a full licence showing a current residential address in English. A non-Australian licence must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit. The guide does not give a minimum age. Europcar’s published Australian terms state a minimum age of 21 and describe vehicle-specific young-driver surcharges for drivers under 25; check the current booking and rental agreement because the available terms PDF is older. Europcar confirms a pre-authorisation on a credit or debit card but does not give an airport-specific amount. The main driver’s card must match their licence. Debit-card payment is limited to selected vehicle types and requires a second acceptable form of identification. Europcar says the hold release can take up to 15 business days, usually 3–7 business days, depending on the bank. The applicable excess appears in the reservation; the airport guide does not give a standard amount.
Enterprise Adelaide Airport names Enterprise among airport-area providers, and an airport-authority record from 2025 shows Enterprise branding at the shared rental counter and ready bays. However, Enterprise does not appear in the airport’s current list of six operators with counter hours. Its exact current counter, hours and handover arrangements are therefore unclear. Enterprise says age requirements depend on the country and vehicle class. The Australian material reviewed does not establish an Adelaide Airport minimum age or a local age schedule. Check the selected car class and rental agreement. Enterprise’s Australian rental terms require a credit-card deposit by pre-authorisation at the start of the rental. Enterprise’s published Australian terms do not state an airport-specific amount or excess. Use the figures in the current local quote and rental agreement.

Avis operates within Avis Budget Group, Europcar is part of Europcar Mobility Group, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car is part of Enterprise Holdings. These group names do not determine which local counter handles a particular booking.

Pick up and return your hire car

For Avis and Europcar, collect your luggage and go to the rental counter on the terminal ground floor. After completing the rental paperwork, follow the signs to the car-rental area in Terminal Car Park P1. Adelaide Airport describes the walk from the terminal to the pickup area as less than five minutes.

For returns, follow the car-rental-return signs to the ground floor of P1. The airport describes the return area as a short, undercover walk from the terminal. The airport’s directions do not specify each provider’s key-return procedure. Follow the instructions on your booking. Avis says after-hours returns are available during airport hours only, with a key drop at the terminal counter. Europcar asks customers delayed or arriving late to contact Reservations.

Enterprise’s airport-area presence does not confirm that every Enterprise booking uses the same counter-to-car arrangement. Use the booking confirmation to identify which brand operates the hire and where to collect the car. Check its opening hours and return procedure, especially if you arrive late.

Compare the payment hold separately from the damage excess. A hold temporarily reduces the amount available on your card; the excess is the amount you may have to pay if the rental car is damaged, subject to the agreement and any protection you buy. The published airport information does not give a standard excess for any of the three providers.

Before booking, check the current quote for the excess, any protection option, the required payment card and any age-related charge. For a late flight, also confirm whether the provider will hold the car and how to collect it after the counter closes. Avis states that its off-airport location cannot collect a renter from an airport where Avis has an airport location, so an off-airport branch should not be treated as an airport pickup alternative.
